Mexican Girl Doll

What do you think of the mexican dolls? I pretty much used what I had in the house already and I bought a few things. I had a tan colored canvas like material for the body and I bought flannel squares in different colors for the dresses. I also had pieces of lace to decorate the dresses. I made a template for the body of the doll and hand sewed the two dolls and dresses. It took me about 6 to 7 hours per doll to make.
I made Haley's doll with a more child like face and Sarah's doll with a preteen face.
They turned out beautifully.

2nd. Annual Girls Sleep Over Party

Sarah came up with a great idea last year. She wanted to have a girls family sleep over. Chris, her paternal grandmother, hosted the party. It was great fun so we decided to make it an annual event. This year I will be hosting the party. I have decided to do a Mexican Fiesta theme.

I worked on the invitations over the weekend. The date is set for Saturday April 17th
We will have 6 ladies- Chris, Sarah's paternal Grandmother, Pam, Sarah's paternal great Aunt, my daughters, Karen and Tammy, Carrie, Karen's cousin in law, myself and two children,my granddaughters, Sarah 10yrs old and Haley 1 year old.

The FOOD and Drinks

Frankie is making his cheese and sausage dip. I will buy store bought guacamole and make a salsa. So we will have nachos and dip for appetizers. Spiced popcorn for our movie.

I will be making frozen margaritas for the ladies and punch for Sarah and Haley.

For dinner we will have chicken enchiladas, chili and tacos. Red Spanish rice and vegetable salad. I am making a Tres Leches Cake for dessert and also Flan. For Sunday morning I am making huevos rancheros and of course pancakes. Sarah would never forgive me if I dont make pancakes.

THE PARTY

Ice Breaker

To begin the evening, we will each write 5 things about ourselves on a piece of paper. We will gather in a circle and pass the papers around the room. Once everyone has see eachothers paper, we will then use a ball of yarn to begin. The first person throws the ball of yarn to another person saying something they know about that person but holding onto the end. The next person does the same and so on until we have each gone around the room creating a web with the yarn.

After the icebreaker will will have dinner, after dinner play a game.. and around 9pm watch a movie. I have to find a movie that has some kind of mexican theme to it.

THE MUSIC

I am also getting some mariachi music to start the party going....O'le

Party Gifts

I bought a black ceramic salsa bowl for each of the ladies as a gift. I need to buy something for Sarah and Haley. I hope to find a small mexican doll. I did not find a mexican doll that I liked so I decided to handmake them each one. I will post pictures. They really turned out cute.

PINATA

I decided on making a mini mouse mexican pinata. It turned out so sweet that I just couldnt bare to see it demolished just for a few pieces of candy so my mexican mini mouse that my mom named Panchita will be our guest for the evening. I am now making a smaller smiley face pinata for Sarah and Haley to tear into.

Game

I am using photos of the development of Panchita to play a game. They will take a very good look at Panchita and then I will show them a photo of her before she was completed and they need to tell me which 10 items are missing. It should be fun.

Last Week of Grandma De's 2009 Summer Country Camp

It is so hard to believe that my three weeks with Sarah and Randy have come to an end. We had lots of fun. They visited my neighbors horse farm and fed the miniature horses. We went bowling again. This time Uncle Adam joined us. We were unable to go to the Sarasota to visit the Mote Marine Aquarium due to possible rainy weather and also school open house for the kids was on the same day.

Randy cooked chicken wings with Papa De. Sarah and Randy worked on two puzzles. Randy finished his but I am still working on Sarah's. We visited Great Grandma Hope again and took her out for a pizza. All in all the three weeks, although challenging in some respects, were lots of fun. We had a lot of laughs. We shared some special moments I will always remember and hold dear and near to my heart. Praying with them at night was one of those special times. My grandchildren are growing up and getting older. This kind of time with them will soon get less and less as they spring forward into their busy teen years that are just around the corner. I love you Sarah and Randy very very much. Have a great 4th grade year... God Bless. Grandma De

End of Week one and Week Two.

Thursday Sarah cooked with Papa De. They made two racks of lamb cooked in the oven with his famous honey mustard sauce. She cleaned the racks and prepared them as Papa instructed her to do. The meal was very delicious. We only ate one rack so we took the other with us to Clearwater when we visited Aunt Tammy and Cousin baby Haley. We picked up Karen after her work day and drove to Clearwater. Baby Haley is now 5 months old. We had loads of fun at the mall on Saturday and Sunday shopping for school clothes. I taught Sarah how to blow gum bubbles. She is now an expert. We returned from Clearwater late on Sunday night so we stayed overnight in Cape Coral. We retuned to Naples on Monday afternoon.

Week two was split between two venues. We were in Naples on Monday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon and then we went to Cape Coral to finish out the week. I decided to try this change so the grandkids could see their parents in the evenings, play with their dog and toys and watch some of Randy's favorite shows that he could not get in Naples. I also wanted to visit with Uncle Adam on Thursday. Sarah and Randy were happy to be home for a few days. Thursday Randy visited with his grandfather Delgiacco and great grandmother Delgiacco while Uncle Adam, Sarah and I took Uncle Adam to the music store. We ate lunch at Hooters. Of course we ate chicken wings. We actually had a very nice day with uncle Adam and Randy had a nice time also.

On Friday our special event was bowling. Randy won the first game 96 to Sarah's 72
Sarah won the second game 92 to 74. Sarah just happened to bump into one of her friends from school at the bowling alley, which was nice. Randy won a prize at one of those .25 machines. I took them to McDonalds for lunch. It was a great day. They both received their 5 quarters. I dropped them both off at Randy,Sr. place of employment by 4:45 and off to Naples I returned for a much need and relaxing weekend.
